I'm watching "Once More, With Feeling," the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I will never be able to see this without thinking of Buddy. There are a couple of reasons for this.

The first is that I'm certain he would have loved it. The villain of the episode is a song-and-dance-inducing demon named Sweet. In short, it's a musical with an actual reason for the characters to burst into song at random intervals. I am confident that he would have found that both apropos and utterly hilarious, just as I do.

Another is that it's just one of the many things I didn't share with him, and can't now. I know he thought of calling to rekindle the friendship; it was his to do, and I wish he'd found his way to ready before he died.

The strongest reason, though, is the villain himself. It's like he's... well, Buddy. The way he gestures, the "song stylings" - I can't even say for sure just how many things about that performance shout "Buddy" to me. I didn't think it had anything to do with appearance, but a Google image search tonight on the actor Hinton Battle is making me rethink that; I don't know if it's a coincidence or if my powers of observation are better when they're subconscious, but without the makeup, this dude could be Buddy's long-lost uncle. I wish I had a pic of Buddy to post, because seriously, we're talking spit'n'image, and I would not be a bit surprised to find out that I'd met him in the basement at one of those fried-chicken-and-kielbasa barbeques his family throws, probably one during which the Electric Slide occurred.

Ah, Buddy. *raises a glass*
