So, I've been reading Tender at the Bone, by Ruth Reichl, and it's making me think back to a week ago, and the literary conversation I had with langs_place the day she loaned it to me.

These are the self-discovery issues of the moment - when writing in an autobiographical mode:
  • Would I change the facts for the sake of story?  In moderation; too much of that and the story becomes fiction.
  • Would I change the facts for the sake of  my own feelings?  I might omit, but I tend not to.  If the story's worth telling, it's worth taking my lumps and swallowing my pride - there are plenty of other tales to tell.
  • Would I change the facts for the sake of a punchline?  In a motherfucking heartbeat, yo.

And so, my hierarchy of priorities, exposed.  :)
