The comic is called Duel in the Somme. The story is about a bet taking place in a VR simulation of a WWI dogfight, the prize being the hand of fair maiden in the workplace. I'm not too sure on that last plot element, but so far it is playing as non-objectbly as it could be, considering what it is. I'm withholding judgment until I see how it ends.

The interesting thing here is that it's a collaborative work of a different sort than I've seen before. The comic is based on a story by Ben Bova, and while I have no idea what he's been doing lately, he has been a darned prolific writer, and I read many of his books in the 80s. The comic scripting is by Rob Balder, formerly of PartiallyClips and still of Erfworld (which is interesting in its own right). The art was done by Bill Holbrook of Kevin and Kell, which is not one I've read yet, but I'm aware of it, and I hear good things. It's a good-looking team for a project like this.

They chose to go with a donation model, and according to Rob's post on the Erfworld site, there may be similar projects in the future, if they can get this one to pay off. I think it's a pretty nifty idea. I can definitely think of some short stories I'd like to see illustrated. Check it out and see what you think!
