Assessing the customer's issue quickly and correctly is the lynchpin of my company's customer service strategy. It's also one of those skills that are almost impossible to nail perfectly; even experienced reps struggle with it, and it gets reinforced a lot.

Last week my boss sent out a cheerleading email that said, "Remember to get to the root of the problem quickly! Asses! Asses! Asses!"

I am still laughing every time I think of it.
